Explained

The Mona Lisa

The Renaissance was a period in Italy where art was EXPLODING.

By that I mean exploding in realism. One of the most famous painting in the whole world was painted in the renaissance: The Mona Lisa  which is kept in the Louvre museum in Paris.

It was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. Her eyes seem to follow you around the room.

But… why is it so famous? Let’s go to 1911.

The Mona Lisa was just an ordinary beautiful painting among other ordinary beautiful paintings- but then it was stolen! People spoke about it on the streets. It became the most famous theft in history. Nobody could track the location of the painting.

Finally, it was discovered in 1913 and hung in Louvre again  for everyone to gaze upon.
