The Grand Egypt Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum opened on 04/11/2025. It has the largest collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in one place!

The museum was first planned in 1992. They started building it in 2005. It took 20 years to complete.

To celebrate the museum’s grand opening, a spectacular musical ceremony took place.

The museum is located near the Pyramids of Giza.

Egypt’s monumental ancient wonders continue to fascinate and impress, drawing millions of visitors each year. Among the most well-known of them all, the Great Pyramids of Giza were built by three successive kings during the prosperous Fourth Dynasty. The oldest and largest of these pyramids, built for King Khufu, took over 20 years to complete

More than 1,550 architecture firms from 83 countries entered, making it one of the largest such design competitions in history. Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects won the main contract with their modern approach, a chamfered triangle oriented as a series of layered spaces through which   the visitor moves, complete with planned views of the pyramids in the distance. According to the Egyptian government, a total team from 13 different companies contributed to the final design.

Over two decades in the making, the GEM is one of the longest-awaited and most-anticipated museum openings in the world. Plans for the museum began in 2002, when the Egyptian government held a competition inviting designs for the new complete

Unlike most of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings which were heavily looted over time, Tutankhamen’s burial chamber was found almost entirely intact. Carter and his team spent months cataloging the more than 5,000 riches—from statues and death masks, to furniture, chariots and jewelry.
