Assassinations Part 2 :Martin Luther King

As you may well know, from watching Wagtails’ class assembly, in 1960s America, black people were often mistreated due to discrimination.

In the 1960s a doctor by the name of Dr Martin Luther King Jr was becoming popular due to his powerful speeches. He was a man who campaigned in the civil rights movement to make sure that different races were treated equally.

Martin Luther King was already a politician so when he gave speeches he was very talented. But, unfortunately, during a speech that Martin was conducting to millions, he was fatally shot on top of a balcony on the 4th of April 1968.

The man who pulled the trigger– named James Earl Ray was put in prison in 1975 he stayed there for 23 years until his death in 1998.
