Eurovision
What is Eurovision?
Eurovision is a yearly singing contest (although it did not in run 2020 for obvious reasons). It is mostly European countries which compete but some other countries compete. They can also compete if they are in the European broadcasting union (like Israel and Turkey). Australia have also taken part since 2015 because they are huge Eurovision fans!
Each year, Eurovision is held in a city of the country which won the previous year. For example, in 2023 Sweden won so Eurovision 2024 was held in Malmö, Sweden.
In 2025, Eurovision will be held in Basel in Switzerland after Nemo (pictured) won in 2024 with their song The Code.
The first ever Eurovision was held in Switzerland, in 1956 with Lys Assia (Pictured) winning with her song Refrain.
Did you know?
- Ireland and Sweden are tied as the countries which have won Eurovision the most times. They have both won Eurovision 7 times!
- The United Kingdom has won Eurovision 5 times- but the most recent time was way back in 1997!
