Artists Explained Part 2: Vincent Van Gogh -an Artist that had a Depressing Life but Persereved…
The year is 1853 and a boy named Vincent is born in the Dutch town of Zundert. He loved to take long nature walks -but you may wonder ‘when does he start painting?’ And I would say that he started painting at the age of 30. He was the eldest of 6 children and he hated photography of him. He was punished severely by his dad so he decided to be closer to his uncle who owned an art gallery in The Hague (One of the largest city’s in The Netherlands.).
At the age of 30, he picked up a paintbrush he painted and painted but he was depressed and mentally ill. At the age of 35, he made the brave decision to live in a mental asylum for a year. At that asylum he painted his most famous artwork: Starry Night, as shown below.
It’s easily recognisable and 5 months after he painted starry night he went back home.
Tragically, one day he walked into a forest and shot himself. He sadly died 30 hours later.
Today he is considered one of the greatest artists of all time…
